Have you ever noticed
that Star Wars is not science fiction? I mean, there are space ships, ray guns, and weird beings you could call aliens, but there's no science: just swords and sorcery, swapped one for one with light sabers and The Force. No evidence, theories, experimentation, or grappling with natural law. Turn off your targeting computer.
This is not really a criticism of George Lucas, because it's how we all live, unless we make a great effort not to: we live by stories, and pick the ones in which we are the heroes. Science isn’t designed to create such stories, so the measurable, “real” world, and the world we think we live in, part ways. Then, the real world rears its real, ugly head, the story becomes an adventure, and lo: we take action.
Sometimes, too late.
